Video Shoot 5 - Third + Fourth Stanza

(Third Verse)
Song stanza:
This is the scene which comes before the dangerous street that Lisa walks down to meet Jacob. The stanza of the song we were shooting for is –

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

The video:
This is the third shoot we had videoed, beside Barclays Commercial Bank. We chose this are due to the lighting looking increasingly vibrant and lively. We decided to base this whole scene on ne stanza of the song. This scene shows the first part of Lisa’s quest to meet Jacob; she’s walking down the ‘good’ street which leads onto the ‘bad’ street (the next scene). We videoed this scene straight after arriving in town after college time, we tried to hurry so that we could capture the time of the day when the sun is setting rather than after it had already set. The area for this scene can be clearly noticed in the next scene therefore we decided to video in areas which were close to each other.

Problems discovered:
Whilst videoing this scene, due to an extremely freezing cold day, the video has turned out a lot shakier than it would have if it was a bit less cold. Also I had difficulty walking backwards in a smooth and steady pace therefore the video has turned out rickety and wobbly. Also the lighting of the scene is very dim even though I had tried using a bright torch light application on my phone to light up Lisa’s face. Even though the light can be faintly seen on Lisa’s face (otherwise her face would have been dark and unnoticeable) the lighting was not strong enough to give a professional and proficient look.

Future planning:
John has kindly lent us a light of his own that is meant for camera purposes in bad lighting, this will help to see Lisa clearly as though she is in a normal and well lit environment but it will also keep the quality of the ‘night time’ atmosphere in the background. To avoid the unsteady pace for the backwards tracking we came up with ideas to attach the video camera to a bike, trolley or pram (preferably a bike) to give a sturdy and firm movement for the camera. A trolley or pram due to four wheels with less surface area would react more dramatically to the cracks and bumps on the pavement whereas a bike tyre would progress along more smoothly due to the surface area being in a lengthy and extensive strip. The rubber tyres will also help to give a smoother ride, the tread provides traction while the body ensures support.

(Fourth Verse)
Song stanza:
This is the scene which comes before the ‘argument’ flashback. The stanza of the song we were shooting for is –

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
And I'd go crawling down the avenue.
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

The video:
This is the second video shoot we had done, in town near Marina. We had gone to a restaurant, where one of our friends works, to carry on with and finish of the story board. Camera shots were decided, amount of acting for each stanza was sorted and additional ideas where included. The last 3 scenes are planned to be videoed when it’s dark and dingy therefore we finished our story boarding. We carried on doing this till the day starting turning into the night and around 6:30pm is when we decided to go into town and to the Marina area. Near Marina is supposed to be the place Jacob and Lisa had first met, therefore this is the place they meet again towards the end of the music video. 9 practice shoots were taken before we finally accomplished videoing the ideal video shoot for that section of the song.

The first practice video was shot to practice the walking pace and singing in an area we thought would look dodgy and murky and the other 8 practices were done in another area which leads off the area of the previous stanza’s scene. The first practice shoot was videoed in a different area which appeared more dodgy and shadowy than the original place we based the scene on. 8 other practice shoots were done due to giggling whilst videoing, little details that were irritating and some videos not appearing as we would have liked.

Problems discovered:
Due to the area being darker than we planned it to be the lighting wasn’t as fine as we had hoped. Also the lights on the ground of that area created long bright streaks of light on the video therefore it made the video appear unprofessional. We had tried to use a torch light from my phone to light up Lisa’s face a bit more so we could see more detail but the idea was unsuccessful. We decided to film in another area which connects to both scenes from the stanzas before and after.

Future planning:
We have decided to video again, this time in order of the stanzas and with an actual video camera rather than a digital camera. Also we will hopefully video again around the time when the sun is just setting rather than straight after its already set and when it’s gone completely dark.
