Video Shoot 8 – Sixth Stanza

Song stanza:
This is the scene which comes after Lisa’s second flashback and finishes the narrative. The stanza of the song we were shooting for is –

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love

The video:
This is the fourth shoot we had videoed, at Marina. This area was chosen because the view of the river and the docks near by give a restful and relaxing mood therefore it’s the perfect place for both characters to be on their own, meet and fall in love. This area is shown earlier on in the narrative as the ‘same place’ therefore to have strong continuity editing we knew to show this place again at the end of the narrative. The lighting on the floor and in the background of the town that’s over the river give the sense of a enhanced and better mood for the situation of both couples. The scene of Jacob and Lisa meeting at the end of the narrative at Marina was purposely decided to show where they had first met to start their relationship and where they have met again to restart their relationship. This scene was filmed to show continuity editing of the time of day, this was done by firstly videoing the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ street then this scene. We originally wanted to capture a time of day of when the sun was setting rather than when it already had done. This area is seen at the end of the ‘bad’ street, behind where Jacob is stood therefore the continuity editing of time and space is reinforced again.

Problems discovered:
The lighting in this video became the main problem due to the camera mainly focusing on the lights on the ground and the dock lights which were situated right behind Jacob and Lisa and in the centre of the frame. Also Jacob’s and Lisa’s face weren’t as lit as up as when we first planned and tested. Even though I used the torch light application on my light and shone it from above while the light on the floor was shining from below, their face still wouldn’t appear clear enough to be extremely visible for the camera. The cold made it even more difficult for me to hold the camera still considering we didn’t have a tripod handy at the time and also for Jacob and Lisa to be stern with their acting. The wind was blowing towards Lisa therefore her hair was scattering about which would take the viewers attention of the situation, also the wind being strong was making it hard for Lisa to sing and keep a straight and serious face without squinting.

Future planning:
Again John has let us borrow his camera light therefore this should help light up Lisa’s and Jacob’s face and give a more professional look to the scene. By moving the exact placement of where they’re both meant to stand, the pole with dock lights on will be hidden behind either Jacob or Lisa’s body and will no longer be the main focus of the frame. We will also look for a day which wont be as cold so that I won’t be as shaky and wobbly and both Lisa and Jacob wont be as chilly either.
